Principal's Corner

Welcome Back 2015-2016 School Year

Good Evening Desert Wind Tiger Families,

This is the first in a series of Weekly Tiger Tidbits that you will receive from me to inform you of upcoming events and save the date reminders.   I am very excited to serve as your principal and look forward to meeting both you and your students throughout the school year.

Tomorrow officially starts the 2015-16 school year and classes begin at 9:10.  The courtyard gate will open at 8:40am and students should proceed to the cafeteria to get their schedule.  There will be designated tables for students to pick up schedules according to their last names.  Administration and staff will be out and about to meet, greet and guide your students to ensure that they receive their schedule and find their way to their first class.  We understand that incoming 6thand 7th grade students may feel a little lost at first but I assure you that after one or two days, they will settle in and enjoy the energy and excitement of being in middle school.  The 8th grade students are thrilled to be middle school “upper classman” and will also be guiding students to their classes.

As the week progresses please feel free to email the teachers with any questions.  I am also available through email atjcelaya@msud20.org or by phone at 520-568-7110.   If you need to see me, simply come by the office.

I am looking forward to a successful, fun year at Desert Wind.

Sincerely,

June Celaya

Save the Dates

August 3rd – First Day of School

Bus schedules are available on the district website if you have not already received one.

August 5th – First Early Release

Each Wednesday students will be released at 3:10 so that staff can participate in professional development.

Week of August 3-7

  • All students will review the student handbook during their first hour class.  This secondary handbook includes information regarding the student code of conduct, dress code and other important information.  This is available on the MUSD Website as well as the Desert Wind Website.  Each student will be sent home with a document that must be signed by both you and your student.  We are asking that all parents and guardians review this with their student and, after doing so, return the signed signature page that will be sent home.  It is critical that both you and your students become familiar with the expectations and consequences of student conduct.  I will send another reminder to return this document through a mass phone call communication later in the week.
  • Student ID’s will be taken throughout the week.

Tiger Tidbits

  • During the first week please be sure that students retain their schedules as their form of ID for lunch purposes.
  • Each teacher will provide students with a list of school supplies as well as their classroom expectations for student success.
  • Bus schedules can be found on the district website or obtained from our office.
  • Free and reduced lunch applications are available on the district website and in our front office.
